SHALLOW THOUGHTS FROM THE DEEP END WITH MISS JULIE’S POOL BOY: Saturday evening, Miss Julie & the Pool Boy ditched the Speedos & flip flops, got dressed up & went to a fundraiser. Arriving early, as the aquatic super couple are long time supporters of the cause, they had a “we’re so old the Dead Sea wasn’t even sick” moment when they talked with a parent supporting the same cause that was the flower girl in their nuptials in the church that casts a shadow over their Olympic size world of water. Nuptials that took place 3 years before the birth of the turning 35 this year World Wide Web, an epoch when every month a CD was delivered by mail offering 1000s of hours of free access & 1000s of hours of busy signals on the phone mounted on a wall in the kitchen. A phone answered with no idea who was calling & used like the Neanderthals Miss Julie, Pool Boy & others were, to dial a 1-800 number to purchase & wait 4-6 weeks to receive music from giants like Slim Whitman & Zamfir the Master of the Pan Flute or dial locally bank sponsored digits to find out the present time & temperature. The evening followed with renewed acquaintances & appetizers, then to an auction & on to some dancing that Don Cornelius wouldn’t allow on the Soul Train Line & Dick Clark wouldn’t even rate the lowest possible 35 points when people that couldn’t bust a move sober to The Commodores, Wild Cherry or Vanilla Ice thought alcohol would help their pirouetting shortcomings. In spite of those bringing the blues to their lack of rhythm, MJPB had a groovy night. While sitting next to one hipper & younger than the Pool Boy that appreciated MJPB’s veteran moves at not bidding, Pool Boy was asked where he got his “fly” shoes. MJPB then had his first moments with admiring fans. The fact they were brought over & introduced by Miss Julie & were attractive ladies & had kind words was both flattering & proof Miss Julie is more the warrior queen type & never the needy damsel in distress, (MJPB is catching up Ryan Gosling!). The evening ended as the Pool Boy, backed by KC & the Sunshine Band, departed as a chivalrous gentleman, whether in flip flops or fly footwear should, with the one that brung him…
