IMAGES & INSPIRATION, PORTFOLIO 2, COMPOSITION 1: Today, I looked out on a gym floor filled with children. Two caught my eye, one black, one white, one a student, one a prospect. The visitor, full of tears & nerves, was having a bad day in a new environment until seated at a table when a little left hand clutched a little right hand, a little black hand clutched a little white hand & a master class was delivered in hate, racism, & distrust are learned behaviors. I know many put their trust in political charlatans on both sides of the aisle & their faith in religious charlatans from their pulpits, both types of men spewing & twisting Jesus’ words to poke & prod & promote & pervert the favorite prejudices of their supporters. Folks can certainly follow who they want. Me, I think I’ll just follow the words of the Man from Galilee verbatim even though they’re sometimes uncomfortable & I’ll seek men, in the words of poet Robert Service, “…with the hearts of Vikings & the simple faith of a child”.
